Origin of Name

The unusual name is based on a story involving my wife and me.

Many years ago we were tent camping on our newly purchased property between Elizabeth & Scales Mound, Illinois. Neighbors had alerted us that we would hear the coyotes tonight, because they were in-heat.  Early in the evening, a sound could be heard from the woods. My wife immediately identified the sound as a coyote.  While I had some reservations, she assured me that she was correct, because “she was from Wisconsin, and knew these things”. Later in the evening, a louder blood curdling series of sounds could be heard from the woods that my wife admitted must be the coyotes baying (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJGv9bWBwYI).

To save face and allow my wife to always be right, we agreed that the earlier sound must have been from a special mythical ‘hooting’ coyote that mimics the sound of a barred owl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fppKGJD3Y6c). We commissioned a weather vane comprised of a coyote with wings to bring our vision to life, and it became the symbol for Hooting Coyote LLC.
